Swimming in the pool is not exactly like regular lap swimming but I got used to it fairly quickly, and I get a good workout.
The filter doesn't work real well; you need to hand skim stuff out fairly regularly.
I haven't used the heater; I don't need it yet. I also didn't realize that it required a 220 line, which is kind of a pain. I think that should be mentioned in the literature.
