Holmes Twin Ceramic Heater (PCH4199V-UM) Review

Holmes Twin Ceramic Heater
Average Reviews:

For the price the Holmes Twin Ceramic Heater is a good bargin. Heats up fast and with the oscolating feature spreads the heat around the roon evenly. Also has two power settings for use in a small room such as a bath room. I use my heater mainly on the lower setting as I find this does the job of heating my bed room or bath room quite nicely. This is the second heater of this type that I have used and neither one has given a moments problem. I had to buy a second heater as my son wanted his back for use in his bed room. If you want an economical heater that will give years of serviceI recommend the Holmes Twin Ceramic Heater with no reservations.

Dayton 1VNX3 Electric Heater, Analog Flat Panel, 400 W Review

Dayton 1VNX3 Electric Heater, Analog Flat Panel, 400 W
Average Reviews:

Perfect for small rooms. I purchased this heater for our dressing room (approx. 14x10) which gets quite cold in winter. This unit keeps the room very comfortable at low to medium setting, even when the temperature outside is in the single digits. My main selection criteria were quiet operation, small footprint and low wattage. This heater meets all three. Being a light sleeper, I'm particularly pleased about the noiseless operation. The only sound it makes is an almost inaudible click of the thermostat (whereas the ceramic space heater we had before woke me up every time the blower came on). We've had it for two months and so far it has performed flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this heater.

RugBuddy 165w Under Rug Space Heater (3' x 5') Review

RugBuddy 165w Under Rug Space Heater
Average Reviews:

Bought the rugbuddy to warm the oriental carpet in my attic office. We have a 100 year old house with cold wood floors, and thought this would be just the trick.

After getting the rugbuddy set up under my carpet and turning it on, I was surprised how long it took to warm the carpet and floors - at least 4 hours. But this is probably a function of how much cold floor it has to warm. After leaving it on for a full day, my workspace was warm and toasty, and even my shoes would get warm while I work.I guess that's pretty good for 165 watts of heating.

I would love it if Rugbuddy sold a carpet pad to go under the heating pad, ideally with foil facing - this would definitely help it to warm faster and send more heat upward.

All in all, a very good purchase.

Marley Portable Convector Baseboard Heater, 120 Volt, 1000/1500 Watts, BTU/HR 3413/5120 Review

Marley Portable Convector Baseboard Heater, 120 Volt, 1000/1500 Watts, BTU/HR 3413/5120
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The heater I got is made in the USA.Don't know if they are still making them here onshore, but gladly, mine doesn't have the toxic fumigants embedded in the paint (and other parts) that other heaters have from the shipping container fumigants they apply to the shipping container interiors when they ship from China (to prevent mold and mildew, and insects in the containers, which are sometimes enclosed for months.) Heat really activates these chemical toxins, embedded in the materials. Those toxic vapors take a while to gas-off of a new heater, and I have enough health problems and headaches without them.

The heating element in this portable heater is the same size as a 1000-Watt stationary baseboard. On the 1000-WATT setting (low) it gives a steady nice heat and doesn't get the chassis extremely hot on the outside - probably because of the angle at which the heater stands, which maximizes airflow convection. It doesn't even get as hot as a 1000-WATT stationary baseboard, which sits vertically against a wall. This is important because new paint can also release vapors when it gets very hot and can take a while to gas-off of a new heater. It is also important because it will extend the life of the heater.

The "enamel" paint on all heaters is not really a traditional mineral enamel coating, but a modern polyester imitation, sometimes called "power coat."It is like when they call eating utensils "silverware" which is mostly stainless steel.Heat this "enamel" paint with a torch and it wont blister or crack, it will melt.

This heater does not make a ticking sound when heating up like the very toxic Lakewood low-profile "oil-filled" heater does. The Lakewood is not a true oil-filled hydronic heater but a element heater with an oil-filled reservoir attached to it.

This Marley (aka Q-Mark) heater has a good price for a good basic product. The Dayton, sold by Grainger used to be this model too, made by Marley, but have since farmed out their own Chinese copy cat, looks just like it. As of this review Grainger might still have some old stock of the USA-made ones left, but you must make sure.It should say Made in USA on the box, as mine did.

The location of the thermostat is much better the location of the thermostat on a radiator-type stand-up oil-filled heater, all of which are now made offshore as far as I have seen in stores (and therefore very toxic anyway, please let me know if there are still any made in USA.)
In element heaters, there is very little heat at the ends of the element. The heat gradually increases to the middle of the element. The thermostat is at the end. That means element heaters are less likely to effect the control of the thermostat relative to the ambient temperature in the room, which will have more effect on the thermostat than it will with a hydronic (oil-filled) heater, especially radiator-types.That makes the element heater far better for heat control and moderation.

I hope they continue to make this heater in the States.I am going to check tomorrow for another one.If it is still made here, it will be the only portable element heater or hydronic (oil-filled) on the market that still is made here, that I know of.If anyone else knows of any other portable element or portable hydronic heaters made in the USA, please leave a comment. It is nice to avoid those toxic shipping container fumigants getting cooked in our homes.

There is nothing wrong with the hose itself. Just be absolutely sure it is exactly what you want. Because returning it is no easy task. It turned out the hose was not compatible with what I needed it for, so I attempted to return it. Returning the product was painstaking. The company, ANTOnline makes you jump through a dozen different hoops before you can return it and then ultimately rips you off, by charging you a restocking fee. You'll have to contact the company providing your reasoning for the return, wait a few days and they will send you an RMA# which you need to return it, then after they receive the item they determine without previously informing you, how much of a refund you will actually get (its not a full refund, they keep a little for themselves). The original cost of the item for me with taxes and shipping turned out to be around 18 dollars. I then had to pay an additional 7 dollars in shipping fees to return it. My refund was only 10 dollars!!! So I basically pissed about 15 dollars away because of ANTOnline. I will never do business with ANTOnline again!!!

Mr. Heater F273704 Plasticizer-Free Green Hose for Portable Buddy and Big Buddy Review

Mr. Heater F273704 Plasticizer-Free Green Hose for Portable Buddy and Big Buddy
Average Reviews:

We have only used it once so far, but it (and the heater) worked perfectly. My family of four spent two nights in our tent with nighttime temperatures dipping into the low 40s.Each night, we would turn the heater on high for about an hour before we put the kids to bed. Then, we'd leave it on low until morning. The 10'x14' tent remained quite comfortable all night long.In two nights, we used approximately 1/2 of the propane in the 20lb. bottle (which was full when we started). As such, there was no need to change out propane bottles during the trip.Very convenient -- and much more cost effective than using the individual 1-lb. bottles.

We used a battery-powered carbon-monoxide detector so that we could feel more comfortable letting the heater run all night. The alarm never went off, and we experienced no problems. This makes me feel much better about using this heater in a tent in the future.Even so, I will always use it only with the CO detector.

I camp out all year long. I purchased a Mr Heater Portable Buddy heater to heat my tent/quad trailer this last year. The manufacturer recommended using the filter when using bulk propane tanks to fuel the heater. It worked so well on my heater (no fuel related problems in the last 12 months) that I also installed one on my Coleman two burner stove which I have hooked to a 20 lb tank also. For the small cost, it really saves you a lot of problems with propane contaminents and maintanence costs.

Think Mr. Heater should be ashamed to make a portable heater with a blower that only works on 120V power and not include the 6V adapter, but i won't jade this review with my rage.

seriously, this is just a plug.maybe 6-ft long so you will likely have to use it with an extension cord depending on where you place the Big Buddy Heater.

Mr. Heater MRHF273400 Buddy Portable LP Gas Heater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This heater is excellent and the perfect fit, for a certain set of requirements.
If you have electricity, use an electric heater.Don't bother with the hassel of propane. The cost isn't too different and the hassel factor is much higher than electricity.
I also don't recommend using the small canisters. That's an inconvinient way to go as well.
BUT.If you don't have power and need a cheap, safe heat source that you can run while you sleep, this is the best one made.Buy the 12' hose, place a 20lb propane tank outside, and run this heater all night with just a small crack in a window or door (just in case!).You will get > 100 hours of heat out of a tank of propane!Less than a buck to run it all night.
Highly recommended under the right circumstances.

What's in the Box
Heater (piezo igniter, igniter wire, ground wire, RH plastic cover, fuel control knob, rear cover, LH plastic cover, two base support tubes, guard wire, handle tube, burner-mount screw, regulator, owner's manual, control valve, pilot ODS/ tip-switch assembly, burner orifice, burner orifice o-ring, burner plenum, burner tile clip (2), burner tile gasket, burner tile, burner reflector, regulator hold-down)Five Tips for Buying a Heater
Choosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier. What are the different types of space heaters?

Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.
Should I buy an electric or a combustion model?
If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips. How powerful a heater do I need?
Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:

Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.
Do space heaters cost a lot to operate?
As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient. Are space heaters a fire hazard?
Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.
