(More customer reviews)I placed an order to purchase a Sunpentown portable air conditioner and went to their facility in City of Industry, California to pick it up.When I arrived, another gentlemen was there to pick up his WA-1230H that was in for repair.This got me concerned about the purchase I was about to make so I asked him some questions about it.It turns out that this was *** THE THIRD TIME *** he had brought his AC in for repairs.After the second time his unit broke down, Sunpentown provided him with a new one (which was the one he was picking up from being repaired that day).He told me that the first time his AC broke was within 3 days of purchasing it.2 separate units breaking down a total of 3 times = YIKES!

Needless to say I began feeling very uncomfortable about throwing down almost $500 on an AC (WA-1220H) that I was no longer confident in.I asked one of the employees about the reliability of the air conditioner I was about to receive and he said it was "good.""So it's not great or excellent?" I questioned.He laughed nervously and then went on to explain that the reliability depended on how the unit was treated (during transport, whether you had pets and cleaned out the filters regularly, etc.).He didn't give off much of a confident vibe while he talked about the product.That, combined with seeing the poor guy picking up his AC after the third repair, provoked me to cancel my order and walk out the door.My gut feeling was that I would be very disappointed with this purchase and that I would have been kicking myself for not paying heed to the warning signs.

I've decided to not purchase a portable AC.Instead, I'm opting to look for a set up that's more reliable.It will be more of a hassle installing, but I will at least be able to enjoy the AC without worrying that it will break down.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this through Amazon after researching other models. DeLonghi has a good reputation for quality products and Amazon for being a reputable dealer.

When our box arrived, the box was damaged. No straps on the package as it should have per the writing on the box.
Upon opening the box, we did find that one side of the unit was not closed completely as though someone had been trying to open the panel on the unit. One of the castor wheels was broken and we were missing the window locking pins. All the other accessories were there. As instructed, we allowed the unit to sit upright for 24 hours before starting it, as we were sure the unit had been on its side during its transport to us.

We followed the instructions in the manual as well as the easy setup card attached to the unit and hooked up the exhaust venting and plugged the unit in to the appropriate outlet. One thing is the unit rolls on castor wheels which was a plus for us but given that one of our wheels was broken it made it a bit difficult rolling it. Very easy set-up. Once the unit started up and we had the A/C mode running you could feel the airflow from 10 feet away. I'm not sure why a previous poster said he/she couldn't feel the cool air as ours was more than adequate using the low speed setting. The remote control that comes with the unit is very convenient. One issue we found was that once you put the batteries in the remote, you need to set the time on it right away. There is no function to reset the time unless you take the batteries out and put them back in again. Just a quirk and not a big deal.

Within 30 minutes we could already feel the coolness in our house. We checked the exhaust to see if it was working properly and it was. Noise level is not intrusive and in fact quieter than most non portable air conditioners that are placed in windows.

One feature we like about this unit is that you do not have to empty any water from the unit until end of season. Filter is washable a big plus. Storage bags for both the unit and the accessories.

We contacted DeLonghi about the missing and broken parts and they are sending them to us. Castor wheel is on backorder so that will take several weeks to get.

Overall, so far we give this a 5 star rating.

(More customer reviews)I bought LX-100 because it has multifunctional features. I tried to use the dehumilifier mode without two hoses connecting to window slot, and it never gets a single drip of water in the tank.Very disappointed!

Heater is claimed to be the most powerful 110 volt heater on the market, but it blows out very little warm air. worst of all, the left side of panel is actually blowing out the COOL AIR!!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit in July 2008 and I have had nothing but problems with it. The Soleus support line is always busy, and when you do get someone, they look for an answer and never call back. My front panel to control the unit does not work, and I have tried to get Soleus to replace the panel, with no luck. I have to use the remote control to use the A/C. Around 2 years of service, and the unit started leaking water. It appears the drain line for the unit is not placed far enough back, and so the water pan just drips out of the unit, right onto the floor. You can pay to have the unit shipped back and repaired they said, but the minimum charge is $150 plus shipping charges. Don't waste your money!
