(More customer reviews)When the manufacturer says "whisper quiet", they mean "whisper quiet if you've lost the upper half of your hearing".I bought this fan to use near my desk which has a rather-noisy computer already, however this fan is the loudest thing in the room.Even the "low" setting has a solid whine/hum, unfortunately.A personal fan needs to be quiet enough to not be distracting and annoying a full 8 feet away.

One other tricky bit: The base attaches and clicks in once insecurely, but then must be twisted and popped in (much more securely) a bit past the first position. If your fan is falling apart when you try to turn it, check that.
